COURSE STRUCTURE for cdl a program
In Class: Our program begins with 80 hours of classroom instruction. Students will participate in classroom lectures and course assignments to prepare for the commercial driving permit test. The course covers a variety of topics to teach students not only the technical aspects of operating a commercial vehicle but the important legal information to ensure they operate on the roads as safely as possible. Students must obtain and maintain a valid Michigan Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) prior to behind-the-wheel instruction. A minimum score of 80% on the Michigan CDL knowledge tests is required.
Behind-the-Wheel: Once students have successfully completed the in-person classroom training and obtained a commercial driving permit, students begin putting into practice the basic driving skills needed to obtain a full CDL A license. 20 hours of range practice, 20 hours of driving observation and 30 hours of behind-the wheel instruction make up this section. Professional drivers will assist in the road training for the students allowing them to gradually go from operating in low-traffic areas to operating on a highway.
Students must have a valid Michigan driver’s license and be at least 18 years old to enroll in a course. if a student has a history of felonies, reckless driving, DWI/DUI or at-fault accidents, they could seek difficulty finding employment within the transportation industry.
